Biography

Interested in everything all the time, Stephen is a health scientist whose research lives somewhere at the intersection of geospatial and behavioral science where he explores the why and the where of health. His primary research focus includes topics such as substance use disorder, sexually transmitted infections, and investigating how geographic mobility impacts environmental exposure to infectious disease. Stephen is a graduate of Saint Louis University where he received his Ph.D. in public health in 2022. He completed a research fellowship at the Sinquefield Center for Applied Economic Research, studying the resiliency and vulnerability of populations according to daily geographic movement and his post-doctoral studies were conducted at the Taylor Geogeospatial Institute where his focus was on developing early-sensing health surveillance systems. During the early stages of COVID-19, Stephen spent much of his time guiding and advising businesses and government agencies on prevention policy implementation and evaluation. In addition to research, he enjoys teaching, volleyball, and playing guitar.
